Visit one of the most accessible stands of giant Douglas fir trees on Vancouver Island. You can stroll through a network of trails under the shadow of ancient Douglas-fir trees, some of them more than 800 years old! Cathedral Grove is approximately 0:30 away by car. The largest trees in this ancient stand measure 75 m (250 ft) in height and 9 m (29 ft) in circumference. Cathedral Grove is the gateway to the "wild side" of the island and in particular to the Pacific Rim National Park, a popular ecotourism destination. Cathedral Grove is part of a crucial natural wildlife corridor in the centre of the Beaufort Range on Vancouver Island that links two UNESCO designated Biosphere Reserves: Mount Arrowsmith in the east and Clayoquot Sound in the west. |
